The Mustang Museum of America has over 35 special models of Mustangs on display, some of which are believed to be the only survivor of that special model.

Our Special Model Mustangs

Ford built many special model Mustangs from the 1964-1/2 Mustang Indianapolis Pace Car Replica to the 2015 50th Anniversary Edition. The Mustang Museum of America has over 35 special models of Mustangs on display, some of which are believed to be the only survivor of that special model in addition to our regular Mustang Collection, our Highway Patrol Mustangs and other rare Special Service Package Mustangs in the US as well as plenty of Mustang Memorabilia.  The Mustang Museum of America is definitely a sought after venue for Mustang and car enthusiasts providing an incredible automotive experience to re-live the Ford Mustang so we hope you will visit soon!

Some of Our Special Models of Mustangs on Display Include:

2008 Bullitt Mustang

– In 2008, Ford again built a commemorative edition of the infamous 1968 Mustang Fastback in the movie “Bullitt” with Steve McQueen and were produced in Black and Highland Green models.

1998 Saleen Mustang

– This Mustang is number 8 of 10 Saleen “Rent-A-Racer” vehicles produced for Budget Rental Cars at the Los Angeles airport.  This was the only Mustang produced in the Pacific Green color and with a manual transmission.

2015 Mustang GT 50th Anniversary Edition

– To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang, Ford produced 1964 special Anniversary Editions in 2015.  This is number 297 of the 1964 produced.

1986 SVO Hatchback

– This is 1 on only 69 SVO Mustangs produced in the color Dark Shadow Blue.  This Mustang is completely original, even the tires, and has only 23,000 original miles.

1968 California Special

– Ford produced 3,867 California Special Editions as part of a marketing promotion in California.  This Mustang has been restored to award-winning show condition including repaint to “Grabber Blue”

2013 Boss 302

– Ford began reproducing the Boss 302 Mustang in 2012 and 2013.  This is serial number 0134 of the 3,526 produced and is one of 852 in “School Bus Yellow” color.

1993 Mustang Feature Car

-This Canary Yellow Mustang is one of 1503 Limited Editions produced in 1993.  Ford also produced 1500 Limited Editions in Oxford White.  This Limited Edition Mustang has the black interior and black convertible top option and 16” chrome aluminum wheels.

1994 Mustang Pace Car Replica

-To commemorate Mustang being selected as the official pace car of the 1994 Indianapolis 500 race, Ford’s SVT division produced 1,000 Rio Red Cobra Pace Car replicas with saddle leather interior and saddle convertible top.

1988 Mustang Convertible – “Stormin Norman”

- This is the infamous 1988 Mustang convertible raced by “Stormin Norman” Gray.  Stormin Norman was a pioneer of Fox Body drag racing, being the first Pro 5.0 program to reach the 10-second mark in the quarter mile with a 5.0 liter block and stock-based Mustang chassis.

2004 Mystic Cobra Convertible

- Paying homage to the 1996 Mystic Cobra, Ford’s SVT division produced Mystichrome Cobras in 2004 (515 coupes, 495 convertibles).  The Dupont ChromaFlair paint produced a shift in colors from topaz green to cobalt blue, royal purple and deep onyz black and also had the Mystichrome color in the leather inserts on the interior seats.

2000 Roush Edition Mustang

- This is an excellent example of a specially-prepared 2000 Roush Stage II Mustang in rare Atlantic Blue paint.

1984 Mustang SVO

– This is one of 4508 first-year, 1984 Mustang SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) with the 2.3L turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed transmission.

1995 Mustang GT Convertible

- This is a rare 1995 Mustang GT Convertible known as a Mario Andretti Edition.  This is one of only 44 Mustangs given away by Texaco in a customer appreciation contest in 1995.

2001 GT Bullitt Edition

– In 2001, Ford produced a special edition Mustang to honor the 1968 Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 movie “Bullitt”. This is serial number 1609 of the 5,582 produced.

1999 35th Anniversary Edition Convertible

– This is low-milage, original edition of only 1,555 Performance Red Anniversary Models produced in 1999.

1964-1/2 Coupe-Indy Pace Car Replica

– The first year Mustang was selected to be the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 in May 1964.  Ford produce 200 Mustang Coupe Pace Car Replicas as part of a special dealer promotional program.

1985 Hertz SVO

- In 1985, Hertz Rent-A-Car purchased 37 Mustang SVO’s, the high-performance Mustang developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Operations.  This Hertz SVO has been beautifully restored to original factory specifications.

1996 Mystic Cobra

- In 1996, Ford produced 1,950 Cobra Mustangs with a special “Mystic” paint color; a special high-tech, color shifting paint developed by BASF.

1993 Cobra

- The 1993 Cobra is the only year a Fox Body Mustang Cobra was produced.  This is one of the 1,784 produced in Vibrant Red and has cloth seats and rare sunroof.

1969 Mustang Fastback

- This Mustang is a tribute to the 1969 Mustang Nascar Legend Bobby Allison drove in the early 1970’s on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit, winning the race in Winston-Salem, NC.

1976 Cobra II

- This 1976 Mustang is a 2+2 model with the Cobra II cosmetic/handling package. This Mustang is popular because Farrah Fawcett (as Jill Monroe) drove one in the Charlie’s Angels television show.

1985 Mustang Convertible

– Special King Cobra Edition This Mustang is one of five special “King Cobra” models produced for Anheuser-Busch Company for the introduction of King Cobra Malt Liquor in 1985. It may be the only one remaining in existence.

1986 Saleen Mustang

- This is a rare 1986 Saleen Mustang, Number 86-0015; only 1 of 3 with this color and options. Features include the 5.0 V-8 engine, Racecraft suspension, Saleen ground effects with multi-color blue stripes, Hurst shifter and Momo steering wheel.

1972 Mustang Convertible

- This Mustang is a rare 1972 R-Code; R-Code representing the rare 351-4bbl V-8, High Output engine. This rare convertible is 1 of 13 with the R-Code package which includes a 4-speed transmission, 9-inch rear axle with 3:91 gears, competition suspension, staggered rear shocks and 15-inch wheels.
